San Jose native Liz Rizza has been picked as the new Ohlone women’s hoops coach, said Renegades’ AD Chris Warden. She will begin her duties July 7.

“She’ll bring a new energy, experience and dedication to the sport,” Warden said.

Rizza has ties to the Stanford program and iconic Cardinal women’s coach Tara Vanderveer. The former South Eugene (Oregon) High star athlete was a coaching intern in 2011-2012 at Stanford, traveling with the team to the Final Four that season.

Rizza in 2013-2014 served as an assistant at Eastern Washington University with her primary responsibilities, according to the team bio, being “team travel, recruiting, and video operations while assisting with post player development and academic support.”

Before Eastern Washington, Rizza was an account executive for the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks, was the camp director for Pepperdine University’s elite individual, team and youth camps and served stints as both an assistant varsity and head JV girls coach at Dana Hills High.
