Directly preceding Aragon's close win over Harker, the Gunderson Grizzlies (5-4) ensured themselves a spot in the championship round of the Monta Vista Holiday Tournament after a decisive 69-51 win against the Tennyson Lancers (3-9).
Gunderson dominated with junior David Awolowo and senior Ryan Tran scoring 25 and 21 points, respectively, while Tennyson's shooters fell short with only sophomore Moody Jamal scoring 19 points to keep up with the Lancers.
The Grizzlies operated efficiently on offense and played tough defense from the outset. Gunderson led 27-11 after one quarter and 41-21 at halftime.
That trend continued in the third quarter as Gunderson continued its domination to lead 56-31 after three quarters.
"The most important thing is them continually keeping the momentum going by just leadership and example," Gunderson coach Mike Allen said. "What I'm expecting is for them to come out and to work hard, stay focused, execute, and do the things that they need to do."
The Grizzlies will meet the Aragon Dons on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. in the title game while the Lancers play for third place against Harker at 6:30 p.m.
