Gunderson pounded out 18 hits, including a home run and four RBI from Angela Futch, to overpower Independence 13-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Grizzlies scored multiple runs in each of the five innings, including nine runs in the first three innings. Kiya Sandoval and Aiyanna Cruz each had three hits in the game.
After winning pitcher Jordyn Drake stranded two 76ers in scoring position in the top of the first, Futch got the scoring started when she drove a 2-1 pitch, with one out, to left field for a three-run homer. Sandoval kept the scoring going in the bottom of the second with a one-out double to score Drake, and Cruz followed that with an RBI single. Angela Anderson's sacrifice fly later scored Cruz to make the score 6-0 at the end of two innings.
Anderson finished the game with three RBI, as her two-run single in the bottom of the fifth ended the game early, by 10-run mercy rule. Sandoval and Cruz each added two RBI in the game.
Gunderson is back in action on Thursday, March 2, when the Grizzlies host Yerba Buena. Independence looks to bounce back at San Jose on Thursday afternoon.
