HUGHSON,CA - Ripon pulled away in the fourth and fifth innings to beat Hughson in a shortened mercy-rule game, 12-2, in TVL softball action.
The first two innings remained silent, but Ripon broke through in the third inning as Mikaela Ferreira brought in two runs after hitting the ball out to center field. Following Ferreira's hit, Jazmine Parra would bring in another two runs in for Ripon after hitting the ball towards left field. Hughson would respond quickly in the bottom of the third with a single run, cutting the Ripon lead to three runs.
¨Unfortunate loss for us, we had some problems in the field, but I feel we can fix these problems as a team going into the following game,¨ said Hughson´s Jaden Brazil.
Hughson would change things up in the fourth, switching Megan Shuayto for Brazil, but Hughson would face some errors in the pitching category, as they charged with five illegal pitches, advancing three runners and making the score at the end of four 7-1 in favor of Ripon.
Hughson would get their last run of the game with a hit by Megan Lutz to left field, but Ripon would be the dominant team, scoring five more runs to take the game by a whopping score of 12-2.
¨It feels great to get the win over Hughson, but we must work harder as a team in practice and in games.¨ Parra said.
¨We played a solid game but we are going to work even harder going into the next game,¨ added Ripon coach Robert Vernon.
Hughson will look to continue in league as they travel on the road to face Escalon, while Ripon will travel back on home to face Modesto Christian.
