Menlo rolls past South City, 48-22

November 2, 2013

Menlo quarterback Jack Heneghan continued his spectacular season Friday with seven touchdown passes to lead the Knights to a 48-22 win at South San Francisco. With the victory, Menlo improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Peninsula Athletic League-Bay Division; South City dropped to 2-6, 0-4 in the PAL-Bay.

Heneghan fired touchdown passes to five different receivers, including two each to Peter Bouret and Will King. Charlie Roth, Jack Marren and Graham Stratford also caught touchdown passes from Heneghan, who completed 27-of-50 passes for 391 yards.

Menlo has been known for its offense, but the defense came up huge as well, holding the Warriors to just 10 first downs. Linebackers Travis Chambers (15 tackles) and Marren (9 tackles, 1 sack) led the way for the Knights.

"The guys played great and our defense had two stops inside the red zone," Menlo coach Mark Newton said.

Menlo stays local for its final two games of the regular season with a short jaunt down to Menlo-Atherton next week and the November Valparaiso Bowl against down-the-street neighbors Sacred Heart Prep. South City visits Sequoia next week as both teams look for their first win in PAL-Bay play this season.
