Second inning runs propel Wilcox past Los Altos

April 12, 2018

SANTA CLARA, CA - A pair of second-inning runs was just enough for Wilcox to take down Los Altos in SCVAL-De Anza action, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

Nick Malvini's double down the left field line, on a 1-0 count, scored Jarrett Chapman with no outs in the bottom of the second, and Nathan Santos' bunt single two batters later scored Malvini to make it 2-0 for the Chargers.

Los Altos battled back in the top of the fourth, as Reelfs and Zach Fuchs singled to lead things off. After Santos retired freshman Aaron Parker for the first out of the inning, Keenan Hanley doubled over third base to score Reelfs and make it a one-run deficit for the Eagles. After a strikeout, Colin Homan walked to load the bases, but Santos induced a pop-up to second base, ending the threat.

The Eagles looked to post one final threat, in the top of the seventh inning, when Homan appeared to double with one out, but was called out on appeal for failing to touch first base.

Although taking the loss, Reelfs struck out six in his six innings on the mound, allowing four hits. Santos scattered five hits in his four and one-third innings for the Chargers, who also got two and two-thirds scoreless innings from Angel Martinez.

The two teams play again this Friday.
