BRENTWOOD, CA - For all intents and purposes, the game turned solidly in San Ramon Valley's favor the second that the opening kickoff was sent soaring into the air to start the 2018 football season. As the ball came down, Wolves returner Clay Facteau headed towards the middle of the field, found a seam, dashed towards the left sideline, and raced untouched into the end zone to get San Ramon Valley on the board early.
From there, the Wolves just kept on rolling, scoring 28 points in the first quarter en route to the 56-7 victory at Heritage on Friday night.
After the teams exchanged punts, the Wolves struck again, this time on a 23-yard touchdown pass from senior Brandon Cammisa to Jacob Himan for a 14-0 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first quarter. The SRV defense held again, and the Wolves wasted no time, going 73 yards in no time, capping the drive with a 40-yard pass from Cammisa to Tristan Sinclair for a 21-0 advantage. Cammisa would add a third scoring pass before the end of the quarter.
Heritage got on the board in the second quarter, and it came after a big special teams play. The Patriots blocked a punt, which Darryl LaChapelle recovered on the SRV 11-yard line. Three plays later, Trevor Moorman found Brad Ehlen for an eight-yard scoring pass, cutting the Wolves' lead to 28-7. But San Ramon Valley responded before halftime, as Noah Thomas caught a deflected ball in the end zone for a touchdown with 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter for the 35-7 lead.
San Ramon Valley takes on Monterey Trail next week, with the Mustangs coming off a 41-6 win over Sheldon. Heritage looks to bounce back against Foothill, who lost to San Leandro on Friday night.
