Montgomery wraps up NBL-Redwood crown

October 20, 2018

With the opportunity to wrap up an outright North Bay League-Redwood Division title in its sights, Montgomery-Santa Rosa got a fantastic outing from quarterback Khameron Perkins, and posted a 48-30 win over El Molino to close out the regular season for the Vikings.

Perkins finished the game with six total touchdowns, four through the air and two on the ground, and he got it started midway through the first quarter, hitting Kaih Johnson for a 68-yard score. El Molino took a second quarter advantage on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Dawson Drew, but Perkins put his team back in front with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Johnson for a 14-10 lead in the second quarter. The teams traded scores one more time before the half, with Perkins ending the second quarter with a 10-yard scoring run.

The Vikings forged their first double-digit lead of the night on their first possession of the third quarter, when Gavin Lemos broke loose for a 57-yard jaunt, and a minute later the lead swelled when Perkins and Johnson hooked up for the third time, this time on a 24-yard touchdown pass and a 35-17 lead. El Molino's Sam Wilson-Mietz cut into the lead with a 15-yard scoring run, but Montgomery came right back as Perkins threw his fourth and final touchdown pass of the night, this time from 29 yards out to BJ Johnson. Perkins finished the scoring himself early in the fourth quarter, when he ran one in from four yards out, which followed a Devin Ramirez interception.

Montgomery improved to 8-2 overall, 4-0 in the NBL-Redwood, able to claim the first-ever Redwood Division title. The Vikings now await their playoff seeding, which will be announced next weekend after the rest of the section concludes its regular season schedule.
