SAN RAMON - After a fast start to the season, the California High girls soccer team found itself stuck in a four-game winless streak after Tuesday's loss to Carondelet. But senior Nikki Trucco found a way to remedy that over the past two matches, and on Saturday she provided the lone second-half goal during the Grizzlies' 1-0 victory over St. Francis-Mountain View.
Trucco scored three times in Thursday's 4-3 win over Amador Valley, snapping the four-game skid, and she did it again on Saturday, after the teams were scoreless at the half. This time, she took a feed from junior Brenna Madruga before finding the back of the net. The Cal Poly commit now has a whopping 23 goals through 14 matches, and California improved to 8-3-3 with Saturday's win.
For St. Francis, the loss was the third defeat in the last four matches, after starting the year on a six-game unbeaten streak. The Lancers head to Valley Christian on Tuesday, looking for their first victory in WCAL play. They fell to 5-3-2 overall with Saturday's loss.
California hosts Dublin on Tuesday night, as the Grizzlies return to EBAL action.
