Santa Teresa pitchers combine for no-no

February 26, 2019

SAN JOSE - Jalen Jagdeo and Gio Sqarlato combined to no-hit Mt. Pleasant on Monday afternoon, as Santa Teresa cruised to the 14-0 victory.

Jagdeo, who threw the first five innings in the win, issued only a two-out walk in the top of the second inning, and struck out the side in the first, third and fifth innings. He finished his outing with 12 strikeouts, and needed only 70 pitches to reach that total.

Sqarlato proved to be just as untouchable for the Saints (2-1), striking out the first two batters in each the sixth and seventh innings, and retired all six batters he faced. Meanwhile, the Santa Teresa offense pounded out 15 hits and drew five walks, putting the game out of reach with an eight-run fourth inning.

Leadoff hitter Gabe Tapia set the example at the top of the order for the Saints, going 3-for-5 with a triple, two doubles and two RBIs. Santa Teresa had seven extra-base hits in the game, including another double from Kyran Dugay, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Santa Teresa hosts Christopher on Friday afternoon, while Mt. Pleasant (0-2) looks for its first win on Friday at Prospect.
