Lancers slug four home runs in win over Capuchino

March 10, 2019

SAN BRUNO - It was one extra-base hit after another for Saint Francis on Friday, as the Lancers pounded their way past Capuchino, 12-0.

Jordan Schuring was nearly unhittable in the circle for the Lancers, striking out nine and allowing just one hit in four innings, and she received plenty of run support. 11 of Saint Francis' 14 hits went for extra bases, including a quartet of round-trippers. Capuchino pitcher Isabel Real got through the first two innings without allowing a run, but the slugfest started in the top of the third inning for the Lancers.

Real retired the first two batters she faced in the top of the third, but Hannah Damore got a rally started with her double to right field. After falling behind 0-2, Jessica Oakland homered to right field to put the Lancers up by two runs. Hailey Prahm followed with another double, scoring when Lyndzey Allard singled to left.

Saint Francis added two more runs in the top of the fourth, and they occurred in back-to-back fashion. After Schuring flied out to start the inning, Sydney Stewart drove one out to center field, and Sophia Roth did the same in the next at-bat to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Lancers. Schuring struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth, and Saint Francis put the game well out of reach in the top of the fifth.

Oakland stroked a one-out double, and Prahm then homered to left on the second pitch she saw for a 7-0 lead. The extra-base hits kept coming, as Allard doubled following Prahm's long ball, and she then scored on Schuring's double. Later in the inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Brooke Deppiesse drove in two more with her double, which was followed by a two-bagger from Damore to drive in two more runs for the final tally.

Lauren Baker pitched a perfect inning in the bottom of the fifth to close out the victory.
