ANTIOCH - Bailee Reed allowed just one hit and scored one of Antioch's two runs as the Panthers defeated Redwood on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1.
Haley Painter and Priscilla Self both had big days at the plate for the Panthers, and both came up clutch in the bottom of the fifth inning, during a scoreless game. After Reed drew a one-out walk, Painter came up with two outs and delivered with her second double and third hit of the day, scoring Reed for a 1-0 lead. Self then doubled to score Painter with a much-needed insurance run.
Redwood scratched across a run in the top of the sixth, but Reed induced a ground ball to Self at third base to end the inning and any further threat. Reed finished the game with 11 strikeouts, including another in the bottom of the seventh when she set the Giants down in order to end the game. She also struck out the first four batters she faced to set an early tone.
