CONCORD - Clayton Valley pitcher Joey Soberon was masterful on Tuesday afternoon, allowing just two hits in a complete game effort as the Ugly Eagles locked down Miramonte, 6-0.
Soberon struck out six and walked just one, needing just 87 pitches, while the middle of his lineup provided plenty of run support. Ryan Pierce went 3-for-3 and walked, hitting in three hole, while Cooper Gardner had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs from the clean-up spot.
Clayton Valley surged ahead in the bottom of the first inning, and it all happened after the first two batters of the inning recorded outs. After Pierce walked, Gardner reached on an error. Brandon Cuneo then singled to score Pierce for the 1-0 lead, and Eddie Curley added a single to score Gardner, with Cuneo scoring on an error to make it an early three-run lead.
The two teams play again on Thursday, this time at Miramonte.
