Junior John Mackay scored a game-high 17 points to lead Heritage to its first win of the season on Thursday night, as the Patriots routed Casa Grande 71-38 on the opening night of the McKinleyville Tip-Off Tournament.
Heritage (1-1) entered the tournament looking to defend its streak of six straight titles at the tournament, and jumped out to a 23-5 lead after one quarter. Mackay scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half, while Isaiah Hinds and Travis Simmons had five points each in the first quarter. The Patriots' scoring in the second quarter was extremely balanced, as eight different Heritage players contributed points in the frame, and 10 different Patriots scored in the first half. Heritage led 43-10 at the break before coasting during the final two quarters.
Senior TJ Glasper provided a second-half scoring presence for Heritage, scoring all 12 of his points over the final two quarters.
Casa Grande (0-4) was paced by eight points from junior Ryan McGuinn.
Heritage advances to face Lincoln-San Francisco in Friday's semifinals, while Casa Grande will face South Fork in the consolation bracket.
