South City gets first win behind strong third quarter

December 13, 2019

The South San Francisco Warriors found themselves staring at a surprising 13-point halftime deficit on Wednesday afternoon against Leadership, with a handful of starters benched for the first half after missing practice.

When the full team took the floor in the second half, they more than made up for lost time. Anthony Vanderbur hit three 3-pointers to cap off a 31-8 third quarter to take a 49-39 lead and the Warriors broke the game open in the fourth for a 65-46 victory, finishing the game with many of the players who had been forced into starting it back on the floor with the outcome in hand. Nico Alimorong scored 24 for South San Francisco (1-1), and the hosts also got nine points apiece from Gio Alvarado, Miles Clarke and sophomore Josh Davis.
