Mt. Pleasant broke open a close game in the third quarter and held on for a 44-31 win over host Live Oak in BVAL-West Valley Division boys basketball action Friday night. With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 4-7 overall, 1-0 in the BVAL-WV. The Acorns drop to 6-6, 1-1.
Senior forward Dantorie Reeves led the way with 15 points and senior guard Previn Wong contributed 12 as the Cardinals doubled their lead by outscoring Live Oak 13-4 to take a 34-16 advantage into the final period. The Acorns cut into the deficit but were never able to seriously threaten despite 11 points by junior Luke Laguna, Live Oak's leading scorer.
Mt. Pleasant looks to extend its modest two-game winning streak Monday night (7 pm) with a visit to Overfelt. Live Oak also faces Overfelt next, hosting the Royals on Wednesday night (7 pm).
