The San Mateo boys soccer team moved into second place in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division with a 2-0 victory over visiting Menlo-Atherton Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Bearcats (7-2-2, 3-1-2, 11 points PAL-Bay), the defending CCS Division II co-champions, surged past the Bears (5-3-2, 3-2-1, 10) into second place, two points behind Carlmont (8-2-2, 4-1-1, 13), a 1-0 winner over Woodside on Wednesday.
Only four points separate the top five teams in the PAL Bay Division as Sequoia (6-5-1, 3-3-0, 9) and Burlingame (5-3-4, 2-1-3) find themselves just one point behind third-place Menlo-Atherton. The top three finishers in the PAL Bay Division receive automatic bids to the Central Coast Section playoffs.
San Mateo visits Burlingame Friday while Menlo-Atherton hosts Woodside.
