Although the Branham Bruins had a shaky start to their match against the Prospect Panthers Thursday night at Branham, the Bruins pulled through for a hard-fought three-game sweep. With the win, Branham improves to 11-6 overall, 4-2 in the BVAL Santa Teresa Division. Prospect drops to 8-9, 4-2.
The Bruins suffered through a lack of communication early on, but still managed to win the first game by a convincing score of 25-15. In the second game, Prospect and Branham fought for momentum as the game swung back and forth while neither team had a significant lead. Bruins captain Taylor Morway led Branham in the second game with numerous kills that dashed the Panthers hope of making a quick comeback.
Entering into the third game, the Panthers needed to establish themselves early if they wanted to force a fourth game. The Panthers did take the first two points of Game 3, but were unable to continue to score against an athletic Bruins defense that covered every inch of the court. The Bruins won the match with a hectic 25-18 win in a sloppy third game that consisted of hurried hits and inaccuracy.
