The Mt. Pleasant boys soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals for a 2-0 win at Santa Teresa Thursday afternoon. The win, coupled with a tie between Leigh and Lincoln vaulted the Cardinals (11-1-4, 8-1-1 BVAL-MH, 25 points) back into sole possession of first place in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division. Despite the loss, the Saints (6-4-6, 4-3-3, 15) are still in prime position for a berth into the CCS playoffs. The top three teams in the BVAL-MH receive automatic bids into the playoffs, and Santa Teresa finds itself tied for third with Lincoln (5-5-4, 4-3-3) with four matches left.
Since a 1-0 loss at home to Leigh on January 24, Mt. Pleasant has put together back-to-back 2-0 wins to take charge of the race for the league title. The Cardinals are left with matches against the bottom four sides in the BVAL-MH, starting with a Monday afternoon kickoff at Overfelt. Santa Teresa visits Lincoln in a crucial match Monday afternoon. Both games kick off at 3:15 pm.
