The Pioneer baseball team broke open a close game late with a pair of 3-run innings to post a 9-2 win at Sobrato Tuesday afternoon in Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton action. The loss was the fifth in a row in league play for the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-5 BVAL-MH). The Mustangs (3-5, 2-5) broke a two-game losing streak.
Leading just 3-2 after five innings, Pioneer exploded for three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cruise to victory. Senior Ethan Stanton, junior Nolan Meadows and sophomore Josh Smith sparked a 14-hit attack with three hits apiece for the Mustangs. Stanton drove in three runs and Meadows scored three runs.
Senior Andrew Bueno and junior Nick Giordano led Sobrato with two hits apiece. Senior Chad Dockendorf picked up the win. The two teams meet again Thursday afternoon (4 pm) at Pioneer.
