Santa Teresa ace senior Jamie Billings tossed a one-hitter as the Saints defeated host St. Francis, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in a non-league softball game.
Billings allowed the only hit in the fourth inning, when the Lancers benefited from Saints errors to push across an unearned run.
Offensively, Santa Teresa managed just five hits, but scored all the runs they would need with a two-run second. Pinch-runner Madyson Herdman stole second and scored on a base hit by sophomore Bailey Coe, who also stole a base to get into scoring position. She was driven home on an RBI double by sophomore Melissa Martinek to make it 2-0.
Santa Teresa made it 3-0 in the third inning when junior Danielle Hernandez drove in Martinek with a single.
The Saints (5-2) followed their win over St. Francis with a pair of games Saturday, losing 7-1 to Santa Catalina and defeating Capuchino, 10-0. Santa Teresa opens Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton play Tuesday afternoon at Leigh. St. Francis hosts Milpitas in non-league play, also on Tuesday. Both games start at 4 pm.
