Serra senior right-hander Matt Gorgolinski tossed five shutout innings and the Padres exploded for nine runs over three innings to post a 9-0 win over visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral in a West Catholic Athletic League baseball contest Friday afternoon.
Gorgolinski (5-1) allowed just two hits and two walks over five innings to lower his ERA to 1.66 and pick up the victory. Senior Jordan Jauregui pitched the final two innings to preserve the shutout.
Senior Christian Conci (3-for-4, 3 RBIs) got the Padres (16-3, 6-1 WCAL) on the board in the third inning with an RBI single to drive home Paul Murray to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, junior John Murray drove in two runs with a single to extend the cushion to 3-0.
Jordan Paroubeck (4-for-5, HR, 2 doubles) added to the lead with a two-run homer to make it 5-0 in the fourth. The Padres put the game away with four more runs in the fifth, as Paroubeck once again delivered the huge blow with a two-run double to score Ian McGuire and Michael Tinsley.
Serra hosts Bellarmine in WCAL action Tuesday afternoon while the Fightin' Irish (10-9, 1-6) host crosstown rival St. Ignatius.
