Junior Drew Strotman threw six scoreless innings to lead host Homestead to a 9-0 win over Gunn in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division baseball game Friday afternoon. The win kept the Vikings (11-10, 7-3 SCVAL-DA) within striking distance of the top of the De Anza Division, just one game behind first-place Wilcox and Palo Alto. The Titans (5-14, 0-10) are still looking for their first league win.
Strotman (5-2, 2.17 ERA) struck out seven and allowed just three singles in six innings to pick up the victory. Junior Brandon Reed preserved the shutout with an inning of scoreless relief.
Senior outfielder Chris O'Connor had four of Homestead's 12 hits, scoring two runs and driving in a run. Seniors Yuki Umeda and Justin Lyon had two hits apiece for the Vikings, who host Mountain View Wednesday. Gunn visits Fremont Monday afternoon.
