San Benito avenged a loss to Christopher earlier in the week with a 11-2 win over the Cougars Thursday afternoon in a Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division baseball game. The Haybalers (18-4, 11-2 MBL-Gabilan) won again Friday, defeating Monte Vista Christian to remain on top of the division.
Senior Robert Soto led the 12-hit attack against Christopher with three hits, including a single, double and triple. Soto scored three runs and drove one in as San Benito broke open a close game with five runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-0. The Cougars handed San Benito just its second league loss of the season, 2-1, on Tuesday.
Senior Jacob Tonascia had two doubles in three at-bats and sophomore Garret Kelly also had two hits for the Haybalers. Senior Connor Menez (4-1) picked up the win with five scoreless innings.
Both teams are back in action Tuesday as Christopher hosts Palma and San Benito welcomes North Salinas. Both games start at 4 pm.
