Senior Angelica Carillo tossed a two-hit shutout as host Christopher edged Salinas, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in a Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division softball game. It was the first league win of the season for the Cougars (10-11, 1-6 MBL-Gab); the loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Vikings (12-8, 3-4).
Carillo (8-11) allowed just two singles and struck out five batters in pitching her first shutout of the season. She also contributed a key single in the fourth inning when Christopher scored the lone run of the game.
Sophomore Mackenzie Holt led off the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second by senior Kristen Dennis. After Carillo singled Holt to third, cleanup batter Patty Soria, a freshman, drove in the run with a single.
The Cougars continue league play with a trip to Salinas Friday afternoon.
