Sara Gayer's solo home run in the top of the sixth inning lifted Leigh past Branham, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon.
The Longhorns trailed 1-0 entering the sixth inning, but tied the game on a one-out ground ball from Kyana Elder, which scored Brooke Thurman, who had doubled one batter earlier.
That brought up Gayer, who homered to left on the first pitch she saw to give Leigh its first lead of the game.
The Longhorns actually continued the two-out rally after Gayer's home run, loading the bases with three consecutive singles, but Branham pitcher Carissa Rivera induced a ground ball to end the inning.
Branham had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, when Rivera's two-out ground ball to shortstop resulted in an error, allowing Taylor Ann Fowler to score the early go-ahead run.
Brooke Fathali was the winning pitcher for Leigh, tossing a complete game in the circle. Fathali allowed just five hits and no earned runs, while striking out three. Rivera took the loss for the Bruins, despite allowing just one earned run and striking out four.
