Schilperoort's gem leads Westmont to title game

May 26, 2017

Westmont pitcher Hunter Schilperoort did it again, tossing another gem to lead the Warriors to the CCS Division I title game, beating Alisal 4-0 in the section semifinals on Thursday evening.

The senior standout allowed just two hits while striking out nine and walking just one batter. He also flawlessly handled his only chance in the field, while the Westmont offense scored in three different innings, plenty of run support when Schilperoort is on his game.

Schilperoort helped lead the attack at the plate himself, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Meanwhile, junior Cameron Rottler drove in a pair of runs, and the Warriors got multi-hit games from Austin Tremelling and Tyler Lunsford, part of a nine-hit attack. Lunsford and Tremelling also each drove in a run.

Lunsford's single to center in the second inning drove in Tremelling with the first run of the game, and Rottler's single in the third extended the lead, scoring Adam Brockett.

The Warriors tacked on their final two runs in the fifth, when Rottler's ground ball scored Ethan Go, and Tremelling's single to right scored Rottler.

In addition to the nine strikeouts, Schilperoort also induced nine outs on ground balls, seven of them to second baseman Robby Zanardelli.

Westmont faces Los Altos for the Division I championship. Los Altos took down Wilcox in extra innings on Thursday night.
