Junior Kyle Anderson led a powerful rushing attack to carry top-seeded Leland to a 52-20 win over visiting Santa Clara Friday night in the Central Coast Section Division IV semifinals.
Anderson accounted for 268 of his team's 419 yards on the ground to go along with three touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Carson Yates carried six times for 73 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore Kekoa Lopez added 40 yards and a score on just five attempts.
Anderson ran for 250 yards and all three scores in the first two quarters, allowing the Chargers to survive a big effort from Santa Clara's Erik Ketton, who ran for 241 yards and all three Bruins' scores.
Ketton's first two scoring runs gave Santa Clara a 13-7 lead in the first quarter, but Leland closed the half with 38 straight points to lead 45-13 at the break. Yates added his two touchdown runs during that stretch, and did not attempt a pass during the scoring outburst, while Anderson capped the half with an 81-yard run.
The win boosted the Chargers (11-1) into the Division IV championship game where they will take on Christopher (10-2), which avenged an earlier loss with a 34-7 win over Alisal in the other semifinal.
Santa Clara finished its season with a 8-4 record and a SCVAL-El Camino Division championship.
