Senior Jota Yamaguchi scored two goals - including one in the waning moments of the match - to lift Mitty to a 2-1 win over visiting Lincoln in a non-league boys soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Mise Park.
It was the fifth straight win to open the season for the Monarchs (5-0-0), who are ranked second in the Prep2Prep CCS Top 25. The 16th ranked Lions dropped to 2-2-1.
Both of Yamaguchi's goals came on free kicks. The game-winner occurred right at the end of regulation when he struck a left-footed shot into the right side netting from just outside the penalty area.
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but Yamaguchi answered about 10 minutes later with a left-footed free kick just inside the left post from the right side of the penalty area.
The Lions open league play January 2 at Leigh. Mitty concludes its non-league schedule with a showdown against top-ranked Alisal December 29 in Salinas.
