SAN JOSE - Overfelt senior Rodolfo Pedroza scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to lift visiting Overfelt to a 4-3 win over 10-man Branham Thursday evening in a BVAL-Mount Hamilton boys soccer match.
Pedroza converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and slotted a left-footed shot into the right corner a minute later to help the Royals (5-0-1, 1-0 BVAL-MH), ranked No. 6 in the CCS Prep2Prep Top 25, come back from a 3-2 deficit against the 13th ranked Bruins (4-3, 0-1).
Despite playing a man down for the final 50 minutes, Branham erased a 2-0 deficit on a pair of goals by senior Jacob Castro and a goal by senior Dante Reinoso. Castro scored just before halftime on a nice through ball from junior Angel Avalos to make it 2-1 at the break.
The Bruins tied the match 2-2 in the 48th minute when Reinoso scored off assists from Avalos and senior Timoteo Parra. Castro made it 3-2 in the 64th minute off a perfectly weighted through ball from sophomore Lucas Cuellar.
Overfelt opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a goal from senior Paulino Lazaro off an assist from senior Gabriel Perez. The Royals doubled their advantage in the 39th minute on a goal by freshman Isaac Cervantes off an assist from senior Guillermo Segundo.
Both teams continue league play Monday when Overfelt hosts Lincoln at 3:15 pm and Branham welcomes Andrew Hill at 5:30 pm.
