Smooth performance leads to road win for Los Gatos

January 25, 2018

LOS ALTOS — Consistency has been a problem for the Los Gatos Wildcats this season, but they put up a refined effort on Wednesday en route to a 67-46 win at Los Altos.

USF commit Dylan Belquist led all scorers with 29 points, including 10-of-17 shooting from the field and a 7-for-8 performance at the line, but as dominant as he was, it was far from a one-man effort. Alex Braken-Guelke scored 14, and Belquist had just two points in the third quarter as Los Gatos (13-5, 4-2 SCVAL De Anza) opened up a 12-point lead on the host Eagles.

Belquist was a game-changing presence, but the improvement of the rest of the team allowed him to take a few short rests on the bench and provided an insurance plan on the rare occasions his shots didn’t fall. His skillset should translate well to the collegiate level, with drives to the hoop and a finishing touch that will work against much larger opponents.

He did have to face some size on Wednesday, including Cal Poly-Pomona commit Matt Eberle, who led Los Altos (11-7, 4-2) with 21 points.
