SAN FRANCISCO - Jack Dyke allowed just two hits in six innings on the mound on Tuesday afternoon, helping lead St. Ignatius past Terra Nova, 5-0, in non-league action for both teams.
The junior pitcher struck out just four, but needed just 73 pitches to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. Meanwhile, the Wildcats' offense provided single runs in each of the second and third innings, before creating breathing room with a three-run fifth inning. Jack Thomson led the SI offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
Thomson's triple came with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, and SI clinging to a 2-0 lead, with runners on first and second. The left-hander turned on the first pitch he saw, scoring both Marvcus Guarin and Justin Williamson. Thomson then used some heads-up base-running to score the final run of the game.
Hugh Brooks came on in relief of Dyke, and did not allow a hit while preserving the victory in his one inning on the mound.
St. Ignatius heads to Burlingame on Friday, while Terra Nova plays at Mountain View this Saturday.
