The South San Francisco Warriors are section champions for the first time in program history, winning the CCS Division III title by outscoring Aptos 36-14 in the second half for a 66-50 victory.
Last year, the Warriors were eliminated by Aptos in the semifinals with Brittney Cedeno injured. She sprained her ankle on Tuesday, but with a balanced attack and aggressive press, South City knocked off the defending champions on Saturday night at Piedmont Hills.
Jerlene Miller had 17 points and 17 rebounds, 5-foot-1 senior Kayla Jew scored 11 and freshman Alex Salise scored 14. South San Francisco (25-4) took the lead for good late in the third quarter.
Aptos (25-3) got a game-high 22 points from Natalia Ackerman, 12 from Hannah Hocom and 10 from Abby Pardue.
