WALNUT CREEK, CA - A pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning capped a big day offensively for Northgate, as the Broncos upset perennial power Alhambra, 12-10, in DAL-Foothill action on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Hannah Brajkovich and sophomores Olivia Lee and Katie Hicks had three hits each for Northgate, which rallied from an early 9-3 deficit and then broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth after Alhambra managed to tie the game in the top of the fifth.
Brajkovich also doubled and drove in three runs, while Hicks and sophomore Amaya Lee each drove in a pair. Junior pitcher Birdie Stewart earned the win in relief for the Broncos, allowing one run and three hits in four innings.
The Northgate efforts spoiled a strong day at the plate from Alhambra's Lindsey Osmer and freshman Kira Nilson. Osmer went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Nilson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and scored twice. Bulldogs catcher Isabella Emerling also had another strong day behind the dish, throwing out two of three attempted base-stealers.
