Westmont sophomore Kylie Love scored the only goal in Thursday's match against Menlo, finding the back of the net in the second half to lift the Warriors to a 1-0 victory.
After earning draws in their first two matches of the season, including a 1-1 decision against Gunn in their opener of the Fremont Firebird Classic, the Warriors got their first win of the season thanks to solid defense, a clean sheet from junior keeper Anika Roskowski, and Love's timely goal. Love also had Westmont's only goal in an earlier 1-1 draw with unbeaten Sacred Heart Prep.
The Warriors return to tournament play this Saturday, facing South San Francisco at Fremont, while Menlo looks to bounce back from its first defeat of the season, facing Gunn in the same tournament.
Menlo had won four straight matches to open the season. The Knights posted three straight wins by shutout to open the year, blanking Menlo-Atherton, Capuchino and South San Francisco before taking down Aragon, 2-1, on Tuesday.
