SANTA ROSA - Senior pitcher Sean Flowers went the distance on Thursday afternoon, seeing just four batters over the minimum in a 3-0 Cardinal Newman victory against Ukiah.
Flowers allowed just two hits and struck out nine, while the Cardinals' offense staked him to a lead with single runs in each of the first three innings. Senior Jordan Herrfeldt had a 3-for-3 day at the plate for Cardinal Newman, and scored once, while Shane Moran showcased his ability to create by any means possible. The sophomore multi-sport standout only reached base once - on a walk - but swiped a pair of bases to eventually score a run.
Junior Andrew Lombardi had a single and drove in a run with sacrifice fly, while Herrfelt, Dino Kahaulelio and sophomore Aidan Lombardi all smacked doubles in the winning effort. Both of Ukiah's hits against Flowers were singles.
Cardinal Newman improved to 1-1 with the win, while Ukiah falls to 1-2.
