Las Lomas rolls past Kennedy

August 23, 2019

FREMONT - Las Lomas cruised to 42 first-half points before calling off the dogs and defeating Kennedy-Fremont, 54-0, in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.

The Knights' opening drive of the night ended in a touchdown pass from Everett Johnson to Zach Patterson, the first of three times during the night in which the duo would hook up for scores.

"We are just glad to have our first game done. We had some first game nerves early, made a few mental mistakes and we have some things to clean up over the next week," said Las Lomas coach Doug Longero. "Everett (Johnson) continues to make strides at quarterback, and we have a big game next week."

Las Lomas' second drive ended with another score, this time on the first of two rushing touchdowns from senior Oregon State commit Isaiah Newell. Less than a minute later, Jayden Duffy made the score 21-0 with his interception return for a score.

"I thought the defense played very consistently out of the gates," Longero added.

Newell's second score made it 28-0 midway through the second quarter, and the Knights quickly tacked on another after an interception from Caden Royere at midfield, which led to another connection from Johnson to Patterson. With a minute left in the half, Sammy Von Felden - who moved from College Park back in January - intercepted another ball, and the Johnson to Patterson duo put the finishing touch on a dominant first half, sending the teams to the locker room with Las Lomas leading 42-0.

Eljah Lash scored on the ground during the third quarter for the Knights, while Andrew Ergood added the final points of the night with his fourth-quarter rushing score.

Las Lomas hosts Bishop O'Dowd next Friday in a battle of NCS-ranked teams, while Kennedy will look to rebound at Livermore.
