Robby Beasley scored 25 points to lead Dougherty Valley past Heritage on Tuesday night, the Wildcats' third straight win by double digits to open the season.
Beasley scored 16 of his game-high total in the first half, as Dougherty Valley overcame a slow start offensively with great defense in the first two quarters before pulling away for the 61-36 victory. Freshman Ryan Beasley also scored all four of his points in the first two quarters, as the Wildcats led 23-14 at the break before erupting for 38 points in the second half.
After being held scoreless in the first half, junior Jacoby Lacey was perfect from the free throw line down the stretch and finished with 10 points for the Wildcats, while senior Donovan Sevilla chipped in eight points.
Junior Lamar Murphy led Heritage (0-1) with 13 points.
Dougherty Valley seeks a 4-0 start when it hosts Pittsburg on Tuesday, Dec. 10, while Heritage looks to defend its title at the McKinleyville Tip-Off Tournament.
