A late goal from senior Nate Coy was just enough to lift Branham to a big win over Willow Glen on Friday night, as the Bruins held off the Rams, 1-0.
Just moments after entering the match, Coy scored close to the final whistle on a header off a corner kick from fellow senior Jaeson Gonzalez, supporting an outstanding defensive performance against a Willow Glen team which had scored 21 goals in its first eight matches and suffered just its second loss of the season.
Zac Tzou was a key component of the back line for Branham, which received freshman keeper Ailton Acosta's first career shutout in the victory.
Branham improved to 4-3 overall with its third straight win and hosts Sacred Heart Prep in a big non-league match on Saturday morning. Willow Glen fell to 5-2-2 with the loss, snapping a two-game win streak, and heads to San Jose on Tuesday, Jan. 7 for a non-league match.
