Junior tailback Elijah Dale scored five touchdowns to lead St. Ignatius to a 46-26 win over Terra Nova Friday night in Pacifica. Senior QB Jack Stinn tossed two TD passes for the Wildcats, who improved to 1-1 with the victory. Terra Nova (0-2) was led by senior QB K’Ren Spain, who rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the defeat.
St. Ignatius raced out to a 13-0 lead on the strength of a pair of first-quarter scores. Stinn found Joe Lang for a 20-yard TD pass and Dale scored his first touchdown on a 10-yard run to stake the Wildcats to the early lead. However, the Tigers rallied for 18 unanswered points in the second quarter as Spain ran for a pair of scores and then threw a 50-yard TD pass to Tanner Piccolotti to make it 18-13 with 4:51 left in the first half.
However, Dale answered right back with a 54-yard run just 41 seconds later to give the Wildcats the lead for good. Then with just 10 seconds remaining in the half, Stinn hit senior WR Andrew Vollert on a 10-yard fade in the corner of the end zone to extend the lead to 26-18 at the break.
In the second half, Dale added three more touchdown runs to put the game out of reach, as he finished with 225 yards rushing on 28 carries. The Wildcats host Menlo-Atherton Saturday Sept. 15 while Terra Nova looks for its first win of the season Friday night at Pioneer.
