The Branham girls volleyball team didn't get off to a very good start at the Del Mar Invitational this past Saturday, but the Bruins certainly ended well.
After suffering consecutive losses to open the tournament, the Bruins (4-2) bounced back with wins over Del Mar and Santa Clara to capture the Bronze Bracket Championship at Del Mar. After dropping its first two matches to San Lorenzo Valley and Lynbrook in three-set battles, Branham moved into the bronze championship match with a 25-12, 25-12 win over host Del Mar. Branham then went on to defeat Santa Clara, 25-18, 25-20 in the final, which was secured when Branham captain Taylor Morway spiked home the winner into the open far-right corner of the court for the final point.
Despite being newcomers to the Blossom Valley Athletic League "B" Division, the Bruins have their sights set on a top three finish in the Santa Teresa Division. Branham's expecations seem to be reasonable after its convincing finish at the Del Mar Invitational.
