Junior quarterback Keller Chryst threw three touchdown passes - two to Jayshawn Gates-Mouton - as host Palo Alto defeated Los Gatos, 25-7, Friday night in SCVAL play. The win vaulted the Vikings (5-2, 3-1 SCVAL) into a three-way tie for first place with the Wildcats (4-3, 3-1) and Milpitas (5-2, 3-1), which lost to Wilcox Friday night.
Chryst finished with 214 yards passing, including scoring strikes of 62 and 39 yards to Gates-Mouton (3 receptions, 120 yards). Chryst (10-of-18 passing) also threw a 48-yard TD pass to Malcolm Davis. Senior Matt Tolbert rushed for 119 yards and a 70-yard touchdown just three minutes into the game.
Los Gatos, which trailed 25-0 after three quarters, avoided the shutout on a four-yard run by sophomore Joey Wood with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Wood and senior William Le were held to a total of 126 yards rushing by a Palo Alto defense that limited the Wildcats to 220 total yards, including just 42 in the first half.
The 'Cats look to get back on track with a key home date with Milpitas Friday night while Palo Alto hosts Saratoga. Both games kick off at 7:30.
