Bellarmine grad White signs with Dodgers

June 15, 2016

Bellarmine College Prep grad Mitchell White, the 65th pick (second round) in the June amateur free agent draft, has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for $590,000, tweeted Jim Callis of Baseball America.

Added Callis: “Santa Clara RHP, late rise, FB gets to mid-90s, nasty cutter.”

White had Tommy John surgery after high school. He was a reliever at Santa Clara University as a freshman, but moved to the starting rotation as a sophomore and averaged 11.54 strikeouts per every nine innings, flashing a low 90s fastball that sometimes hits 96. He also has an outstanding cutter.

Said cbssports.com of White: "At 6-foot-4, 207 pounds, there is some room for a little more physical projection. There is the potential for a No. 3 or No. 4 starter here in time if everything clicks."
