Notre Dame Prep football ruled ineligible

October 28, 2016

The Arizona Interscholastic Association's Executive Board ruled Notre Dame Prep football will remain ineligible for postseason play in Friday's emergency meeting.

The Board voted 5-3 to keep Notre Dame on probation due to violating rules during the summer, including holding an advanced P.E. class where football participants were dressed out in full pads.

The decision will keep the Saints, who went 8-2 and won the Northeast Valley Region, out of the playoffs this season. The Board also ruled to give the school a two-year warning for its second violation, recruiting. This week Notre Dame's principal placed president James Gmelich on a one-week suspension and fired head coach Head Coach Mark Nolan.

Those moves, however, were not enough to earn a reduction in the school's one-year postseason ban.
