Week 10 Southern Section Highlights

No. 2 St. John Bosco 47, No. 14 JSerra Catholic 19

A week after falling in a colossal game against No. 1 Mater Dei, St. John Bosco bounced back in impressive fashion. Quarterback Re-al Mitchell accounted for three scores as the Braves ran away with a big win. Serra’s Matthew Robinson completed 15 of 22 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown, but also threw an interception as the Lions suffered their fourth loss of the season.

No. 22 Bishop Amat 41, No. 9 Chaminade 40 (OT)

Amat closed its season in thrilling fashion, earning an overtime win in an upset over Chaminade. Sophomore quarterback Blake Archuleta completed 19 of 36 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns, and junior Dominic Barrera and sophomore Christopher Lopez combined to rush for 230 yards and two touchdowns as the Lancers took down the Eagles. A touchdown in overtime — a completion from Archuleta to Nick Di Fiori — proved to be the difference for Amat, which finished the regular season with a 7-3 record.

No. 21 Santa Margarita 23, No. 8 Orange Lutheran 7

In a common theme for Week 10, Santa Margarita stunned Orange Lutheran in dominating fashion. The Eagles kept the Lancers off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, grabbing a 16-0 lead after three quarters. Quarterback Richard Wagner completed 15 of 18 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown, while four rushers combined for 182 yards on the ground. Junior Chad Magyar carried the ball 18 times for 96 yards, while junior Malone Mataele scored twice on the ground.

No. 19 Cathedral 24, No. 24 St. Francis 17

Cathedral continued its undefeated season with its hardest-earned win of the season, taking down fellow Top 25 team St. Francis in a close contest. Wideout Arex Flemings caught nine passes for 113 yards to power the Phantoms’ offense, while Jamire Calvin caught a touchdown pass. The Phantoms also scored twice on the ground, proving to be enough to score a big win against a difficult opponent.
