Open Division: Cathedral Catholic 44, Mission Hills 21
First seed Cathedral Catholic proved once again that they are unstoppable, easily beating Mission Hills in the Open Division semifinals. Quarterback Tate Haynes finished with a passer rating of 114.6, and running back Adam Eastwood scored two of the team’s six touchdowns on the night. The Dons will face Helix — one of their toughest opponents — next week in the championship.
Division 3: Christian 35, Lincoln 34
First seed Christian barely overcame fourth seed Lincoln in the Division 3 semifinals last week in their closest game of the entire season. Fullback Joey Morones scored two touchdowns in the game, while running back Tshombre Carter, wide receiver Benjamin Goodwin and running back Ethan Contreras each scored one. Next week, the Patriots will play second seed Bishop’s, the only other undefeated team in the bracket.
Division 4: La Jolla Country Day 21, Southwest EC 14
Despite being behind in the first half, La Jolla Country Day was able to surge in the second half and topple first seed Southwest EC. Sophomore running back Caleb Petry scored two touchdowns, and wide receiver David Wylie scored one. With a 10-3 season record, the fifth seed Torreys will play third seed Santana in the championship next week.
Division 5: Horizon Christian Academy 40, Tri-City Christian 18
The Division 5 playoffs ended with fourth seed Horizon Christian upsetting the third seed Tri-City Christian in the finals last week, topping off their win over Classical Academy in the semifinals. Sophomore running back Aryom Harr scored three touchdowns for the hat trick, and wide receiver Thomas Marcus, running back Diandre Daniels and wide receiver Jalen Nelson scored one touchdown each. The Panthers ended their season with a 7-6 overall record.
