12 NorCal grads earn All-CCAA softball honors

June 11, 2017

12 different Northern California alumni earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors in softball, including six first-team selections. A handful of the recipients also earned all-region honors following standout 2017 campaigns.

Three of the first-team recipients attend Cal State Monterey Bay, including sophomore Courtney Hennings (Amador Valley-Pleasanton), senior Madison Casto (Homestead-Sunnyvale), and senior Mikal Cuellar (Santa Cruz). In addition, one other Otter player with local ties earned All-West Region honors, as sophomore catcher Lusi Stanley (Mills-Millbrae) was named to the all-region team even though she did not garner all-conference recognition. Stanley hit .353 with six home runs and 41 RBI this year, and Casto also earned All-West Region honors for the third straight season after batting .383 with six home runs and 40 RBI, finishing her collegiate career as the number two player all-time in CSU Monterey Bay history for career hits and batting average.

Junior Kelsi Maday (Napa) represented UC San Diego on both the All-CCAA first-team and All-West Region second-team after leading the Tritons with a .395 batting average and 42 stolen bases. She is the school's all-time leader in stolen bases for a career and single-season.

Cal State East Bay was represented on the first-team by freshman Sarah Fukushima (Sheldon-Sacramento), who slugged 14 home runs, the most ever for a Pioneer freshman since joining the CCAA.

Sophomore Morgan Ratliff (Wilcox-Santa Clara) represented Cal State San Bernardino as a first-team selection, after a standout year in center field. Ratliff led the team in runs scored with 48, and had 28 stolen bases, fifth most in program history. She also hit .350 with a team-high 14 doubles.

Humboldt State, who reached the Division II national tournament for the second straight season, had three NorCal grads earn second-team honors, with senior pitcher Madison Williams (Freedom-Oakley), senior catcher Breonna Bejaran (Modesto Christian) and junior outfielder Winona Vigil (Rocklin) making the team. Williams, however, also earned higher recognition, being named to the NCAA Division II National Championship All-Tournament Team, striking out 30 batters in 20 innings pitched, and tossing her third no-hitter of the season in a tournament win over Molloy.

Willams and Bejaran also earned All-West Region second-team honors.

Senior Nicolette Vizcaino (Turlock) earned second-team All-CCAA for Stanislaus State, after the outfielder hit .337 and scored 44 runs this season.

Sonoma State, who qualified for its ninth straight NCAA regional tournament this year, was represented by a pair of NorCal grads on the second-team, with junior outfielder Jordann White (Salinas) and sophomore Lindsey Calcany-Blair (Leland-San Jose) making the cut. White had 55 hits on the season to earn all-conference honors for the second straight year, while Calcany-Blair earned her first selection after batting .344 with three home runs.
