Oakland A's Area Code Games roster features top NorCal talent

26 rising seniors from across Northern California were selected for the upcoming Area Code Games, as part of the Oakland Athletics team.

Sac-Joaquin high schools placed 14 players on the team, while seven athletes represent the North Coast Section and five represent the Central Coast Section. Valley Christian was the only school to have more than one player selected.

NCS Junior of the Year Brett Hansen (Foothill) is one of the pitchers on the squad, as are All-CCS First-Team selections Patrick Wicklander (Valley Christian) and Sam Stoutenborough (Palma).

Infielder Dawson Brigman is the other selection from Valley Christian. Other CCS athletes to make the roster are Joseph Ammirato (Bellarmine) and Cameron Barstad (Serra).

Aside from Hansen, other NCS athletes to make the team include Dominic Pipkin (Pinole Valley), Vinny Tosti (Cardinal Newman), Osiris Johnson (Encinal), AJ Miller (Casa Grande), Bret Soulages (San Ramon Valley), and Alex Williams (Redwood Christian). Hansen and Williams are both Stanford commits.

The 14 SJS athletes to make the team are Cameron Allie (Oak Ridge), Christian Almanza (St. Mary's), Bryce Begell (Vacaville), Dennis Boatman (Woodcreek), Jason Brandow (Vintage), Matt Clayton (Yuba City), Jack Filby (McClatchy), Lucas Gather (Roseville), Titus Groeneweg (Will C Wood), Ryan Holgate (Davis), Cody Jensen (Jesuit), Nicolas Malbrough (West), Zachary Morgan (Lincoln-Stockton), and Brennan Rozell (Lincoln).

The Area Code Games take place at Blair Field in Long Beach, from August 6 through August 10. The A's team opens play on the 6th against the team representing the Cincinnati Reds. They face the Yankees and the White Sox on the 8th, the Nationals on the 9th, and conclude play on the 10th against the Royals. The week also features a home run derby on August 9, following the conclusion of the games on that day.
