Liberty grads make early impact at college level

August 21, 2017

A pair of recent Liberty High graduates made an immediate impact on their college women's soccer programs, as Delanie Sheehan and Devyn Gilfoy helped lead their respective teams to strong early-season performances.

Sheehan - the 2017 North Coast Section Player of the Year and 2016-2017 Prep2Prep Northern California Female Athlete of the Year - had an assist in UCLA's season-opening win over San Diego State, drilling a beautiful cross to Hailie Mace, and then scored two goals in the Bruins' 5-1 win over Long Beach State on Sunday.

Acalanes grad Claire Winter also scored a goal for UCLA in the win over San Diego State, while Menlo-Atherton grad Olivia Athens had one assist in each of the Bruins' victories. Mitty grad Gabrielle Matulich added another assist in the season-opening 5-1 win over the Aztecs.

Gilfoy, the NCS Senior of the Year this past season, scored Pepperdine's first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Virginia Tech on Sunday. The Waves were blanked in a 1-0 overtime loss to Texas A&M in their season-opener.
