Three tips for fans headed to Tuesday's Bruce-Mahoney Game

January 8, 2018

If you are headed to the University of San Francisco for Tuesday's Bruce-Mahoney clash between Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Ignatius, here are a few tips you might want to keep in mind before enjoying an annual West Catholic Athletic League rivalry:

1) Get there early.

As with anything in San Francisco, parking for the Bruce-Mahoney can be a bear, even with USF opening its campus lots to fans. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m., and fans who arrive in time for the start get to see the capacity crowd flow in over the course of the night. Getting to the area well before the game allows for time for a nice dinner, whether it be burritos from Papalote or Eritrean food at Assab.

2) Know your seat location.

Ending up on the other team’s side won’t lead to any hostility, but seeing a wall of blue and red on one side and hordes in green on the other makes for a tremendous visual and the crescendos of noise that come with every basket make for a surreal fan experience. The upper level on each sideline is reserved for students, and nonpartisan fans should head to the seating areas behind the north basket (the side closest to the entrance).

3) Don’t leave your seat during halftime.

The halftime performances at the Bruce-Mahoney are a sight to behold, with the bands and dance teams combining for phenomenal displays to keep the fans entertained. While the concession options at USF are fine, getting food during the break means missing out on the halftime fun.
